Call to open crossing points on the line of contact in Ukraine by Easter

MINSK, 20 April (BelTA) – Efforts will be taken to open the crossing points on the line of contact in the conflict zone in Ukraine by Easter, OSCE special representative in the trilateral contact group on Ukraine Ambassador Martin Sajdik told journalists on 20 April, BelTA has learned.

“Participants in the working group on humanitarian affairs expressed concern at the increasing number of violations of the ceasefire. They agreed to do everything in their power to make sure residents of Eastern Ukraine could visit their relatives and friends living on the other side of the line of contact. It is especially important during the upcoming Easter holidays. All the crossing points on the line of contact should be open and operating,” Ambassador martin Sajdik said.

This applies to Lugansk Region in particular, he said. The checkpoints there remain closed. However, the OSCE representative noted that any progress on this issue will be possible only after the full implementation of the ceasefire by all parties.

“Coordinator of the working group asked all parties to explore all sorts of options for the speedy reopening of crossing points,” he added.
