Minsk bids farewell to Konstantin Koltsov

MINSK, 27 April (BelTA) – A farewell ceremony for Konstantin Koltsov took place in the building of the Indoor Skating Rink in Gorky Park, BelTA has learned.

The famous Belarusian ice hockey player and coach passed away at 42 in Miami on 18 March. Konstantin  Koltsov’s body was cremated in the USA; the hockey player’s ashes were delivered to Belarus on 15 April. Konstantin Koltsov’s former fellow players from the Belarusian national team Oleg Mikulchik, Evgeny Kovyrshin, Oleg Khmyl, Alexander Kitarov, Oleg Antonenko, Alexander Pavlovich and others came to say goodbye to their former teammate.

In addition, representatives of the Belarusian Ice Hockey Association, HC Dinamo Minsk and HC Yunost Minsk where Konstantin Koltsov was trained, laid wreaths and flowers at the ceremony. President of the National Olympic Committee Viktor Lukashenko, senator Dmitry Baskov, as well as players of the Belarusian national ice hockey team led by coach Dmitry Kvartalnov arrived to honor the memory of the Belarusian hockey legend.

Konstantin Koltsov played for HC Yunost Minsk, HC Dinamo Minsk, HC Severstal Cherepovets, HC Ak Bars Kazan, HC Spartak Moscow, HC Atlant Moscow Oblast, HC Salavat Yulaev Ufa and the Pittsburgh Penguins from the NHL. After retiring from professional hockey, Konstantin Koltsov worked as a coach at HC Brest, HC Dinamo Molodechno, HC Spartak Moscow and HC Salavat Yulaev Ufa, and also led the Belarusian national team. Konstantin Koltsov’s ashes will be buried in the village of Chudenichi, Logoisk District.
