Belarusian software powers Uber's competitor in New York

MINSK, 31 August (BelTA) – The Juno startup has enabled more than one million trips so far, BelTA learned from the website of the Hi-Tech Park of Belarus.

Software for the Juno startup was developed by OOO Juno Lab, a resident company in the Hi-Tech Park of Belarus. The startup has become the most rapidly growing competitor of Uber Technologies Inc in New York. New Yorkers have used the Juno app to call a taxi more than one million times already.

Juno is rapidly developing. The company started working with taxi drivers in New York in December 2015. Two months later, in February 2016 the company started a private beta test. Regular residents of the city could not call a taxi back then. In May 2016 Juno became an invite-only app. A short while ago all the restrictions were lifted. Now New Yorkers just have to download the app from App Store or Google Play to call a cab.

Talmon Marco, one of Juno's founders, told the New York Post in an interview that so far some 13,000 taxi drivers have installed the app. Juno users make 100,000 trips per week. According to the New York Post, it is an impressive figure for an app that has been working for 3.5 months only.

OOO Juno Lab was established on 6 May 2015. It was registered as a resident company of the Hi-Tech Park of Belarus on 25 June 2015. The founders of the company and the Juno startup are Igor Magazinik and Talmon Marco. They are also the creators of the Viber app that was developed in the Hi-Tech Park and now has over 750 million users in 193 countries.
