MINSK, 29 March (BelTA) – The State Border Committee of Belarus is on top of the situation in the Belarusian section of the external border of the Commonwealth of Independent States. The committee’s Chairman Konstantin Molostov made the statement in his speech during a regional conference of heads of border service agencies of the CIS member states, BelTA has learned.

The 8th regional conference of heads of border service agencies of the CIS member states took place in Khiva, Uzbekistan. Delegations of the border service agencies of Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, a delegation of the coordinating service of the CIS Border Guard Commanders Council, delegations of the CIS Anti-Terrorism Center, and the Executive Committee of the Regional Anti-Terrorist Structure of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization took part in the conference.

Konstantin Molostov delivered a report on the situation in the Belarusian section of the CIS external border. He stressed that Baltic states and Poland continue reinforcing NATO’s military grouping and conduct military exercises near Belarusian borders. At the same time the neighboring states try to isolate Belarus economically by shutting down most of the border crossings and ignoring the mutual agreements on how many vehicles are supposed to be cleared by international border crossings.

Speaking about the southern border, Konstantin Molostov noted that the situation at the Ukrainian border remains complicated. Ukraine continues deploying various armed units and volunteers to defend the border. It substantially increases the risk of their committing provocations at the Belarusian-Ukrainian border.

The official stated that Belarus’ border service fully controls the emerging situation in the Belarusian section of the external border of the CIS member states.

Participants of the conference concluded that the dynamic transformation of the geopolitical situation and international relations is having a substantial influence on the state of border security in the Central Asia region and other regions. This is why the border service agencies will continue consolidating efforts to properly fulfill measures of the CIS program on cooperation in reinforcing border security at external borders and the CIS program on cooperation in fighting terrorism and extremism.
