Belarus-Ukraine customs system PRINEX launched

GOMEL, 22 October (BelTA) – The Novaya Guta border checkpoint of the Gomel customs house hosted an official ceremony to launch an electronic system of pre-arrival information exchange between the customs authorities of Belarus and Ukraine PRINEX, BelTA has learned.

The PRINEKS system has been developed as part of the project "The assistance in the development of an electronic system of pre-arrival information exchange between the customs authorities of Belarus and Ukraine.” The project budget exceeds €4 million, of which nearly €3.7 million was provided by the European Union within the framework of the flagship integrated border management initiative of the European Union's Eastern Partnership.

The symbolic electronic button symbolizing the launch of the PRINEKS system was jointly pressed by the head of the EU Delegation in Belarus, representatives of the customs departments of both countries, and the International Organization for Migration.

The project was implemented by the International Organization for Migration in Belarus and Ukraine in collaboration with the International Center for Migration Policy Development. More than 40 representatives of customs services of Belarus and Ukraine visited the EU member states to explore the IT infrastructure and mechanisms for the exchange of customs information. For the successful implementation of the project, Belarus and Ukraine installed specialized computer equipment and improved the IT and communication infrastructure at all road checkpoints along the common border and information exchange centers in Belarus and Ukraine.

The PRINEKS system will help increase the efficiency of customs control, reduce the incidence of customs offences, minimize the human impact, enhance the transparency of customs control and reduce time spent on border crossing.
