Belarus to host IAEA expert missions on training programs, NPP management systems

MOSCOW, 20 June (BelTA) –The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) will send expert missions on NPP staff training programs and on the development of NPP management systems to Belarus, Director General of the state enterprise Belarusian Nuclear Power Plant Mikhail Filimonov told the media during the nuclear industry forum Atomexpo 2017 in Moscow, BelTA has learned.

In June 2017 Belarus will host an IAEA expert mission to assess the status of Belarus'commissioning training programs and identify where the IAEA and other organizations may help Belarus with the BelNPP project. Another mission will come to Belarus in July 2017 to support the development and implementation of the BelNPP management systems.

The Nuclear and Radiation Safety Department of the Belarusian Emergencies Ministry (Gosatomnadzor) and the IAEA are also set to hold a training workshop on the authorization of nuclear power plant personnel in November 2017.

The Belarusian nuclear power plant is a project to build a VVER-1200 type nuclear power plant 18km away from Ostrovets, Grodno Oblast. The BelNPP will have two power-generating units with the total output capacity of up to 2,400MW (2x1,200MW). The first power-generating unit will be commissioned in 2019, the second – in 2020.
