Belarus, Oman set to open joint education centers, hold contest of projects

MINSK, 12 April (BelTA) – Matters related to the establishment of joint education centers, organization of a contest of innovative projects, and training of in-demand specialists at Belarusian universities were discussed during the visit of a Belarusian delegation to Oman, BelTA learned from spokesperson for the Belarusian Education Ministry Yulia Borodun.

The visit of Belarusian Education Minister Mikhail Zhuravkov to the Sultanate of Oman was the first official visit of such level to this country. Members of the Belarusian delegation held talks with representatives of different ministries to discuss mechanisms of implementation of interagency cooperation agreements, national education support policies, and coordination of promising cooperation areas.

The delegation met with the Minister of Higher Education of Oman to discuss training of in-demand specialists in Belarus with English as a medium of instruction. The parties also considered the proposal to teach the Russian language to Omani students willing to earn graduate degrees in Belarus. They discussed the possibility of organizing short-term and long-term internships for Omani specialists in English. Special attention was paid to the proposal to set up a center of the Arabic language and culture at Belarusian State University and a center of the Belarusian language and culture at an educational institution in Oman. Besides, the parties showed interest in establishing an educational center of Belarusian State University of Informatics and Radioelectronics in Oman and sending Belarusian engineering and technology teachers to work there on a contractual basis.

The Ministry of Manpower of Oman is willing to train vocational training specialists in Belarus. During the meeting at the Ministry of Education of Oman, agreements were reached to hold a contest of joint Belarusian-Omani research projects, a drawing competition, and an essay contest Belarus and Oman Through Children's Eyes. Mikhail Zhuravkov invited Omani children to visit the national children's center Zubryonok.

Presentations of Belarusian universities were given during visits to Sultan Qaboos University, University of Technology, Higher College of Technology, Muscat College, and Nizwa College of Applied Sciences. Cooperation in education, research, and curriculum development were discussed.
