MINSK, 22 January (BelTA) - Belarus is ranked 50th on the Rule of Law Index in 2015, Chairman of Belarus' Constitutional Court Piotr Miklashevich told a press conference, BelTA has learned.
“The international non-governmental organization, which was established by the American Bar Association in 2006, ranked Belarus 50th on the Rule of Law Index. The ranking covers 102 countries. For example, Kazakhstan was placed 65th, Ukraine 70th, Russia 75th. Denmark, Norway and Sweden top the ranking,” Piotr Miklashevich said.
The Rule of Law Index 2015 relies on household and expert surveys to measure how the rule of law is experienced in practical, everyday situations by ordinary people around the world. Performance is assessed using 44 indicators across 8 categories, each of which is scored and ranked globally and against regional and income peers: Constraints on Government Powers, Absence of Corruption, Open Government, Fundamental Rights, Order and Security, Regulatory Enforcement, Civil Justice, and Criminal Justice.
For example, Belarus is 29th on Order and Security, and 34th on Regulatory Enforcement.
