Security, economic development among CIS' top priorities

MINSK, 20 July (BelTA) – The security and economic development of the CIS members are among the CIS' top priorities, Chairman of the CIS Executive Committee, CIS Executive Secretary Sergei Lebedev told the media ahead of the session of the Council of Permanent Plenipotentiaries of the CIS member states on 20 July, BelTA has learned.

“Ensuring security and stability is essential for the CIS because this is a basis for smooth gradual economic development. The second priority is providing economic stability and economic growth for the member states. This is why all the CIS members and top-level institutions pay special attention to this matter,” Sergei Lebedev remarked.

He said that there are plans to hold the next session of the CIS Heads of State Council in Sochi on 11 October. The next session of the CIS Council of Foreign Ministers is expected to take place on 10 October.

On 20 July, the Council of Permanent Plenipotentiaries of the CIS member states is set to work out draft agendas for the upcoming sessions of the CIS Heads of State Council and the CIS Council of Foreign Ministers. They include the matters related with the further adjustment of the CIS to the modern realities and the documents regulating cooperation in a wide range of fields, from supporting the institution of family and traditional family values to air and space defense.
