Sajdik welcomes progress in addressing problem of wage arrears in Donetsk and Lugansk Oblasts

MINSK, 14 July (BelTA) – There is progress in addressing the problem of wage arrears to railroad workers in Donetsk and Lugansk Oblasts, OSCE special representative in the trilateral contact group on Ukraine, Ambassador Martin Sajdik told media in Minsk on 13 July, BelTA has learned.

“The working group on economic affairs noted the progress in addressing the problems of water management and restructuring of the railway management, in particular renegotiating labor contracts and payment of wages to the railroad employees. We want to accelerate this process even more. This also applies to demining and restoration of railway communication,” Ambassador Martin Sajdik said.

He noted that the working group on humanitarian affairs again discussed the release of prisoners, and the identification of missing persons. The coordinator of the group once again called on the parties to cooperate closely with the International Committee of the Red Cross. This week he visited Lugansk and Donetsk Oblasts again for a more thorough examination of the situation in the zone of conflict,” he noted.

Ambassador Martin Sajdik said that the working group on political affairs again raised the issue of the payment of pensions to individuals residing in the conflict zone, and the modality of local elections in the self-proclaimed DPR and LPR.

When asked about the meeting between U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry and Ukraine President Petro Poroshenko, Martin Sajdik stressed that given such a difficult situation in the east of Ukraine it is very important to have support of such high-level politician.

The next meeting of the trilateral contact group is scheduled for 27 July.
