Poroshenko hopes for closer Belarus-Ukraine ties

MINSK, 27 December (BelTA) – I hope that our relations with Belarus will be growing stronger, Ukraine President Petro Poroshenko wrote in his message to Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the diplomatic relations between the two countries, BelTA has learned.

“This period of effective cooperation has laid a solid foundation for the upward development of the multifaceted relations in the interests of Ukraine and the Republic of Belarus. Historical and cultural ties that bind our nations are key to building a successful relationship between the two states based on understanding, trust and mutual respect,” reads the message.

Petro Poroshenko is convinced that the coming years will be marked by fruitful cooperation, while effective political dialogue and close partnership, including in a multilateral format, will bring the relations between Ukraine and Belarus to a new level.

The Ukrainian President wished Alexander Lukashenko new achievements for the benefit of Belarus and peace and prosperity to the friendly Belarusian people.

BelTA reported earlier that Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko sent greetings to Ukraine President Petro Poroshenko on the 25th anniversary of the diplomatic relations between the two countries. “Over the period of independence our countries have built a solid and comprehensive system of bilateral cooperation relying on openness, trust, and equal cooperation,” the message of greetings reads. Alexander Lukashenko expressed confidence that the brotherly ties between Belarus and Ukraine will continue developing for the benefit of the two nations.
