Minsk group calls for ceasefire observation in Ukraine

MINSK, 1 February (BelTA) – The contact group on Ukraine calls for the conflicting parties to strictly observe the ceasefire, BelTA learned from the OSCE's special representative in the trilateral contact group on resolving the conflict in Ukraine's east Martin Sajdik on 1 February.

Martin Sajdik said: “Security problems were the key discussion topic today. The discussion resulted in a statement by the trilateral contact group and representatives of several areas of Donetsk Oblast and Lugansk Oblast of Ukraine.”

In his words, the trilateral contact group calls for the conflicting parties to fully cease fire and withdraw the weapon systems, which are subject to the Minsk agreements, to the previously specified distances by 5 February. Apart from that, the document calls for allowing safe passage to OSCE representatives in the conflict zone so that they could do their job and assist with humanitarian efforts aimed at restoring heating, water supply, and electricity supply, including by repairing the infrastructure.

Martin Sajdik mentioned that all participants of the negotiations had backed the statement.
