Contact group on Ukraine to reconvene in Minsk on 7 December

MINSK, 23 November (BelTA) – The next session of the trilateral contact group on Ukraine is scheduled for 7 December, however, the security subgroup will meet in Minsk one day before that, BelTA learned from the OSCE's special representative in the trilateral contact group on resolving the conflict in Ukraine's east Martin Sajdik on 23 November.

Martin Sajdik said: “The next session will take place in two weeks on 7 December but the meeting of the subgroup on security will be held one day before that, on 6 December.”

When asked to comment on reports that the ministers of foreign affairs of the Normandy Four countries may meet in Minsk, the diplomat noted he hoped the event would happen.

Earlier the news agency TASS quoted a Western diplomatic source as saying that the ministers of foreign affairs of the Normandy Four countries (Russia, Ukraine, Germany, and France) may meet in Minsk in late November. “The possibility of arranging such a meeting is debated. It is possible that the ministers of foreign affairs of the four countries will gather in the Belarusian capital by the end of the month,” a source told TASS. German Minister of Foreign Affairs Frank-Walter Steinmeier confirmed that preparations for a meeting of the ministers of foreign affairs were in progress.
