Belarus' CEC head observes presidential election in Uzbekistan

MINSK, 5 December (BelTA) – Chairwoman of the Belarusian Central Election Commission (CEC) Lidia Yermoshina observed the presidential election in Uzbekistan on 4 December, BelTA learned from the Central Election Commission.

Monitoring the presidential election in Uzbekistan was also CEC member Mikhail Petrushin.

The representatives of the Belarusian Central Election Commission were invited to observe the presidential election in Uzbekistan by CEC Chairman Mirza-Ulugbek Abdusalomov.

A presidential election was held in Uzbekistan on 4 December 2016 following the official announcement of the death of incumbent President Islam Karimov on 2 September. The following four candidates were nominated to run for the presidential post in the country: Shavkat Mirziyoyev, current Prime Minister of Uzbekistan and interim president; Khatamjan Ketmanov; Sarvar Otamuradov; and Narimon Urmanov. The register of voters included 21.4 million people.
