Poland keen to cooperate with Gomel Oblast in construction, woodworking

GOMEL, 25 October (BelTA) - Polish businessmen are keen to develop cooperation with Gomel Oblast in construction and woodworking, Tadeusz Jedrzejczak, member of the Lubuskie Province administration, told reporters. Tadeusz Jedrzejczak heads a delegation of Polish businessmen and representatives of the municipal authorities on a visit to Gomel Oblast on 25-26 October, BelTA has learned.

Tadeusz Jedrzejczak noted that the main goal of the visit to Gomel Oblast is to establish business contacts with the local business. “The Polish businessmen, who arrived in Belarus as part of our delegation, show an increased interest in cooperation in woodworking, furniture production, construction,” Tadeusz Jedrzejczak said.

The Gomel Office of the Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry hosted a matchmaking event for Belarusian and Polish enterprises and organizations. The Polish guests got familiar with the economic potential of Gomel Oblast, privileges and preferences provided under the Belarusian legislation for foreign investors and for residents of free economic zones. A seminar was organized to introduce the guests to the terms of doing business in Belarus (taxes, duties, import/export restrictions). The guests are planning to visit a number of industrial and agricultural enterprises in the region.

Marina Filonova, director of the Gomel Office of the Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, noted that international cooperation play an important role in interregional contacts. She added that earlier Poland cooperated mainly with the western regions of Belarus. Today the neighboring country has begun to show an increased interest in the eastern regions. “This visit is a clear proof of this,” she said.

The cooperation agreement between Belarus' Gomel Oblast and Lubuskie Province of Poland was signed in 2007. This document makes the basis for interregional relations, the development of business contacts in trade, economic and investment, cooperation in culture, education, physical education, sport and tourism.
