GRODNO, 30 September (BelTA) – Plans have been made to renovate the railway bridge over the Neman River in Grodno and transform it into a road bridge using a Chinese credit line, Chairman of the Grodno Oblast Executive Committee Vladimir Kravtsov said at a press conference on 30 September, BelTA has learned.
“We have applied for a Chinese loan for this project, and we hope to get down to work in 2017. Grodno needs this project. We have been discussing it for a long time. The bridge will make part of the road that will connect the neighborhoods Yuzhny and Devyatovka. It will help us reduce the road traffic congestion in the city's center and near the Rumlevsky bridge,” Vladimir Kravtsov explained.
He noted that Grodno Oblast is implementing three projects with the participation of Chinese investments. These are the project to build a center of traditional Chinese medicine, renovate Grodno Hotel, and erect three blocks of flats. One of them, a nine-storey house in Grodno, will be commissioned in H1 2017. “We have other ideas for cooperation. Some of them were discussed during the expo and fair Euroregion Neman in Grodno in September. Several trade contracts with our Chinese partners are in the active drafting stage now. We pin big hopes on the contract with OAO Bellakt to supply baby food to the Chinese market. The documents are being reviewed by sanitary services and other agencies. Entering the market of China is not an easy task for our products. If implemented successfully, this project will provide the basis for our supplies of other products to China. Chinese partners show interest in our juices, linen and other goods. Other ideas are being considered, too,” Vladimir Kravtsov said.
