CIS member states sign agreements on cooperation

MINSK, 28 October (BelTA) – A package of agreements on cooperation in economy, energy, and humanitarian affairs was signed following the meeting of the CIS Council of Heads of Government in Minsk, BelTA has learned.

They include the agreement on cooperation among the CIS member states in the mining and metallurgical industry. The document aims to ensure the coordinated work of the mining and metallurgical industries, to foster mutually beneficial ties, to promote joint programs and projects, joint ventures and companies in exploration, ore mining and processing.

The CIS member states approved the concept of the CIS intellectual property market and a plan of action for its implementation. These documents provide for the improvement of intellectual property management mechanisms, the development of innovative entrepreneurship, improving the competitiveness of commodity producers in the CIS countries.

Another document was the agreement on cooperation in the field of plant quarantine. The document contains the legal mechanisms for cooperation in the field of plant quarantine. It also aims to develop joint measures for improving the quarantine phytosanitary safety and increasing the level of protection of the territories of the CIS countries from the spread of quarantine objects, to reduce the losses they inflict and eliminate obstacles to international trade in products subjected to quarantine phytosanitary control. The parties will exchange information on the spread of quarantine objects and on the measures taken to combat them.

The heads of the CIS government delegations also approved a plan of action to the hydro-meteorology strategy (2016-2020), a CIS energy production and consumption forecast by 2030, a cooperation agreement in the automotive industry, a partnership agreement in the field of legal education programs for consumers.

The heads of the government delegations also endorsed the decision to conduct international comparisons based on the purchasing power parity of the currencies used in the Commonwealth of Independent States, a regulation to finance the development of medical and social assistance to the veterans-participants of local conflicts and to members of their families by 2020.
