Belarus Oblast's exports to Vietnam nearly double in January-April

BREST, 12 June (BelTA) - Belarus Oblast nearly doubled exports to Vietnam in January-April 2018, Brest Oblast governor Anatoly Lis said as he met with a delegation of the Lao Cai Province of Vietnam, BelTA learned.

In January-April, Brest Oblast exported nearly $880,000 worth of goods to Vietnam, which was up nearly 90% as against the same period a year earlier. During the period under review the overall trade between Brest Oblast and Vietnam reached $1.7 million, up by 61.5% According to the governor, these results have been achieved thanks in many ways to the cooperation agreement signed by Brest Oblast and Lao Cai Province last summer. “Brest Oblast producers have markedly stepped up their efforts. The major exporters are Savushkin Product dairy, Bereza meat-canning plant and Brest meat-processing plant. Despite this good growth, I believe this is not the limit. I am sure that this visit will promote the development of trade and economic relations between our regions,” Anatoly Lis said.

Chairman of the Lao Cai Provincial People's Committee Dang Xuan Phong noted the responsible attitude of the regional leadership to the implementation of the cooperation agreement. According to him, the purpose of the visit of the delegation comprising representatives of government agencies and entrepreneurs is to fill the agreement with specific projects. “You have a great experience in manufacturing and food processing. The demand for milk in Vietnam is very high. We are also interested in the technology and equipment to store fresh vegetables and fruits. In addition, we are considering supplying our seafood to your plants. I think these areas are very promising,” the head of the delegation said.

The Belarusian-Vietnamese business forum was held in Minsk the other day and was a great success. It was attended many entrepreneurs from both sides. “Following the forum, several contracts were signed worth a total of about $10 million. The volume, I believe, is still modest. The key issue for us right now is the form of payment for export/import. We should have direct contracts, without intermediaries,” Dang Xuan Phong stressed.

On 12 June the Vietnamese delegation plans to hold talks with executives of the Santa Bremor company. On 13 June the Brest Science and Technology park will host a business meeting between the Vietnamese delegation and local exporters. The guests are also set to see Brest Oblast's main attractions: the Brest Hero Fortress memorial and Belovezhskaya Pushcha National Park.
