Belarus makes advance payment for Russian natural gas

MINSK, 8 December (BelTA) – Belarus has made an advance payment for Russian natural gas deliveries, BelTA learned from Vladislav Sychevich, Press Secretary of the Prime Minister of Belarus.

According to the source, in October 2016 the Belarusian and Russian governments reached an agreement in principle and worked out concrete mechanisms to resolve problems relating to oil and natural gas supplies. However, the implementation of the mechanisms has been delayed. “Belarus is interested in resolving the current situation as soon as possible. This is why as the first step and a gesture of good will Belarus has made a payment in advance for natural gas deliveries,” noted Vladislav Sychevich.

The official added: “Belarus expects the Russian side to demonstrate good will in return and restore the volume of oil deliveries to Belarus as soon as possible as determined by the effective intergovernmental agreements.”

“At the same time Belarus hopes that Russian partners will get down to implementing the ‘October' agreements, including the terms of supplying natural gas to Belarus,” stressed the Press Secretary of the Prime Minister of Belarus.
