Belarus, Iran encouraged to explore new areas of cooperation

TEHRAN, 22 January (BelTA) – Belarusian Industry Minister Vitaly Vovk stressed the need to expand the economic ties with Iran and remove the obstacles standing in the way of financial transactions during the 14th session of the Belarus-Iran commission on economic cooperation in Tehran.

“Although Belarus and Iran enjoyed good relations in the last years, the countries have not fully realized their existing potential,” Vitaly Vovk said as he met with Iran's Minister of Industry, Mine and Trade Mohammad Shariatmadari.

The Belarusian minister pointed to a remarkable increase in Belarus-Iran trade in 2017 and called for expanding cooperation in mechanical engineering, agriculture, medicine, and education.

He also expressed hope that the Eurasian Economic Union and Iran will sign a free trade agreement in the near future.

The 14th session of the Belarus-Iran commission on economic cooperation is taking place in Tehran from 22 to 23 January. The sides are set to work out a framework of bilateral cooperation for 2018-2020.
