Alternative oil sources for Belarus by year end possible

MINSK, 23 May (BelTA) – I do not rule out that we may receive oil from countries other than Russia in 2017, Belarusian Deputy Prime Minister Vladimir Semashko told the media on the sidelines of the Belarusian Industrial Forum on 23 May, BelTA has learned.

“Everything is possible,” Vladimir Semashko said.

Some time ago, Chairman of Belneftekhim Concern Igor Lyashenko said that Belarus is considering diversifying oil supplies. “We continue working on the matter. We have no intent to spite Russia. Diversification always provides an additional safety net for the economic stability of any sector,” Igor Lyashenko noted. He did not name any specific countries or potential alternative sources of oil. “The negotiations are underway. Their content is a commercial secret. Certain options are on the table,” he said.
