MINSK, 19 March (BelTA) - The Washington Capitals forward Aliaksei Protas set Belarus’ new record for goals scored in the NHL regular season, BelTA has learned.
The Belarusian reached his career high in points during the Washington Capitals match against the Detroit Red Wings. The score was 1-1 when the Washington Capitals netted three in the final stanza to celebrate a 4-1 victory. Aliaksei Protas made two assists to help his team grab the win. Aliaksei Protas scored 61 (29+32) points in 68 games of the season and surpassed Yegor Sharangovich’s record for points (59) scored in the previous NHL regular season.
Yegor Sharangovich scored his tiebreaker in the game against the Arizona Coyotes. The 25-year-old forward has scored 59 (31+28) points in the current season. This result helped Yegor Sharangovich set a new record for the number of points earned by Belarusian players in regular NHL championships.
Artyom Levshunov of Belarus assisted Connor Bedard in the Chicago Blackhawks 2-6 loss to the Seattle Kraken. The assist became the second one for the 19-year-old player from Zhlobin in four games. Vladislav Kolyachonok assisted Joona Koppanen in the Pittsburgh Penguins 2-4 loss to the New York Islanders. The Belarusian scored a total of 7 (2+5) points in 30 games.
