MINSK, 1 July (BelTA) - Belarusian Greco-Roman wrestler Kiryl Valeuski won the bronze medal in the -77kg category at the European U20 Wrestling Championships currently underway in Caorle, Italy, BelTA learned.
At the qualifying stage, Kiryl Valeuski lost to Georgian Anri Khozrevanidze but thanks to the advancement of the latter to the final the Belarusian got a chance to compete in the consolation bracket. Kiryl Valeuski defeated Austrian Lars Matt (8:0) and Hungarian Dominik Botos (8:1), and in the third-medal bout he prevailed over Finland’s Vikke Tarkkio (11:3). Kiryl Valeuski is also the world and European U17 champion.
The remaining Greco-Roman wrestling events at the European U20 Wrestling Championships will be held on 2 July. The ladies’ program will be held on 3-4 July and the freestyle wrestling program on 5-6 July. Team Belarus at the tournament in Italy consists of 29 wrestlers. All in all, the event in Italy drew together more than 500 athletes.
