MINSK, 20 October (BelTA) - The 2025 U23 World Wrestling Championships have kicked off in Novi Sad, Serbia, with twenty Belarusian athletes registered for participation, BelTA has learned.
The Greco-Roman wrestling events opened the program of the planetary sporting forum on 20 October. Six Belarusians are competing here: Hleb Makaranka (67 kg), Viachaslau Zhehalau (72 kg), Illia Valeuski (77 kg), Vadzim Paleyenka (82 kg), Ilya Shumchyk (130 kg), as well as a medalist from last year's U23 World Wrestling Championships and an Olympic participant, Abubakar Khaslakhanau (97 kg).
Medals in women's wrestling will be contested on 23-25 October. Seven of our athletes will vie for the podium: Sviatlana Katenka (kg), Viktoryia Volk (53 kg), Aryna Dzemchanka (57 kg), Uladzislava Kudzin (59 kg), Yana Tretsiak (62 kg), Kseniya Tsiarenia (65 kg), and a medalist from the previous U23 World Wrestling Championships, Viktoria Radzkova (68 kg).
On 24-27 October, freestyle wrestlers will take to the mat, including seven Belarusians: Matvei Sytsevich (57 kg), Mikita Berazun (61 kg), Anatoli Hramyka (65 kg), Mikita Dzemchanka (70 kg), Aliaksandr Hulnik (74 kg), Nikita Mayeuski (79 kg), and Pavel Dziatlau (125 kg).
At the 2024 U23 World Wrestling Championships in Albania, Belarusian wrestlers won one silver and three bronze medals.
