MINSK, 19 November (BelTA) – The Belarusian national football team wrapped up the European Qualifiers for 2026 FIFA World Cup with a draw, BelTA has learned.

In Zalaegerszeg, Hungary, in what was considered their home game, Belarus played out a goalless draw with Greece. Both teams attacked relentlessly, yet the score remained blank at the break. Greece came out strong in the second half, testing Belarusian goalkeeper Fyodor Lapoukhov with a series of dangerous shots that he managed to parry. Belarus subsequently found themselves on the back foot, defending resiliently to keep a clean sheet. This stood in contrast to the first round, where Greece routed them 5-1 in Piraeus. Their only point in this qualifying cycle until now was last week’s 2-2 away draw with Denmark, under coach Carlos Alos of Spain. Other results included losses to Denmark (0-6) and Scotland (0-2 and 1-2).

Scotland claimed the top spot in Group C after a dramatic 4-2 victory over Denmark in Glasgow. The hosts snatched the win by scoring twice in second-half stoppage time. The Scots secured a direct pass to the World Cup finals, while the Danes will proceed to the playoffs. The final standings are as follows: Scotland – 13 points, Denmark – 11, Greece – 7, Belarus – 2.

The winners of the 12 European qualifying groups will advance to the world championship. Four more tickets will be contested in the playoffs, which will feature 12 teams that finished second in the European qualifiers and four national teams based on the previous season of the UEFA Nations League.
