13 Belarusians among winners of sambo tournament for Belarus president’s prizes

MINSK, 15 February (BelTA) – A traditional international sambo tournament for prizes of the president of the Republic of Belarus ended in Minsk, BelTA has learned.

On the second day of the competition at the Sports Palace the athletes determined the best in ten weight categories, with the hosts winning 19 medals (7-4-8). The winners of the home tournament were Kseniya Danilovich (up to 54kg), Maryana Zhukovets (up to 80kg), Igor Miroevsky (up to 64kg), Maxim Romanov (up to 79kg), Daniil Patachits (up to 98kg), Eduard Muravitsky (up to 88kg, combat sambo), and Roman Damiev (over 98kg, combat sambo).
The second place in the finals went to Ruslana Shoba (up to 54kg), Yana Puzenkova (up to 80kg), Ilya Lomivorotov (up to 79kg) and Eduard Belush (up to 58kg, combat sambo). 15 February saw bronze medals going to Daria Novitskaya, Daniela Zhdan (both up to 65kg), Varvara Belochub (up to 80kg), Vladislav Kulesh (up to 64kg), Kirill Tkachenko, Aleksandr Kazak (both - up to 58kg, combat sambo), Denis Ignatok and Vladislav Natalevich (both - over 98kg, combat sambo).
The Belarusian sambo wrestlers have won a total of 39 medals over two days: 13 gold, 6 silver, and 20 bronze ones. Representatives of Russia, Israel, Germany, Armenia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Tajikistan also took part in the sambo tournament for prizes of the president of the Republic of Belarus. The athletes competed for a total of 21 sets of awards - 7 each in men’s sports sambo, women’s sports sambo, and men’s combat sambo.
