Why Iran has one of the best geographical positions in the world: expert explains

MINSK, 5 May (BelTA) - Iran has a brilliant geostrategic position, Russian political scientist and orientalist Karine Gevorgyan said in the latest episode of V Teme [On Point] project.

Discussing the conflict in Iran, Karine Gevorgyan noted: “Iran has a brilliant geostrategic position, one of the best in the world. Who would give that up? The country also has almost every element of the periodic table in huge quantities.  With the rains finally here and enough water for farming, it can now feed its population. And what an educated population it has, half is under 25 years old.”

According to the political scientist, Iran understands that it remains under threat. “That is why they suggested to Arab countries to create a security organization. They are ready to take on obligations. In Arab and Turkish tradition, and in the Anglo-Saxon one too, if you need to win, you lie and bluff as much as you like. Iran is a different civilization, they say what they do and do what they say. That is why they are such ‘tough negotiators,’ as someone said. They are reliable people,” Karine Gevorgyan said.

“Even Herodotus once wrote that the worst sin is lying. That is why in Iran they neither give nor take loans. Because the one who takes a loan might sometimes be forced to lie due to circumstances. To avoid sin, they simply do not do it,” Karine Gevorgyan said. “This is a civilization with continuity. And notice how, under pressure, they have recalled and highlighted their pre-Islamic past. There is no break between then and now. Although we were painted a terrible picture of ayatollahs, oppressed women, unhappy and uneducated in hijabs. The percentage of women in leadership positions in Iran is, I believe, 10-15% higher than in the United States. Some say women are oppressed in this country, but half of all university students are girls,” the expert said
