Zas: International community fails to unite in the face of COVID-19 pandemic

MOSCOW, 9 February (BelTA) – The international community failed to unite in the face of the global COVID-19 pandemic, CSTO Secretary General Stanislav Zas said at the conference "Collective Security in a New Era: Experience and Prospects of the CSTO" organized by the Valdai International Discussion Club with the support of the Russian Foreign Ministry in Moscow on 9 February, BelTA has learned.

"The international tensions have been growing, both on a global scale and in the regional dimension," the CSTO chief said. "This negative trend of degrading international security and growing international tension has been very obvious for at least several years."

"We had hopes that in the face of a new, unknown, global threat to humanity - the coronavirus pandemic - the nature of international relations would change, foreign policy would become less aggressive, and the international community would unite. There were corresponding calls, including by UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres, to end all wars. We supported that call. But all these calls have fallen flat and now we have what we have," Stanislav Zas stated.
