Support for twinning Russian Rostov-on-Don with Minsk

MOSCOW, 24 January (BelTA) – The administration of the Russian city of Rostov-on-Don supports the initiative in favor of establishing twinning ties with Minsk, BelTA learned from the press service of the Embassy of Belarus in Russia, which referred to the office in charge of information support and interaction with mass media of the Rostov-on-Don administration.

Rostov-on-Don Mayor Vitaly Kushnarev met with Vladimir Neronsky, head of the Rostov-on-Don branch of the Belarusian embassy in Russia. Twinning Rostov-on-Don with Minsk was high on the agenda of the meeting. The initiative to establish twinning links between the two cities was put forward by Vladimir Neronsky. The Rostov-on-Don mayor welcomed the proposal.

Rostov-on-Don actively works with Belarusian partners, buying mechanical engineering products, food and raw materials for making food, chemical products, textile and textile goods, footwear. In 2017 Rostov-on-Don's trade with Belarus reached $143.6 million.

The Rostov-on-Don mayor noted: “At present there is a bunch of contact points between the two cities. At least we are talking about cooperation between companies in trade in food and non-foods as well as the participation of Belarusian companies in the renewal of Rostov-on-Don's passenger transport fleet.”

The mayor also reminded that direct air service between Rostov-on-Don and Minsk will soon be established. A delegation of the Minsk city administration is expected to visit Rostov-on-Don in April 2018 on the occasion of the establishment of the direct air service.
