Security Council talks about scenarios tested by Belarusian army’s inspection, future conclusions

GOMEL DISTRICT, 12 February (BelTA) – The snap inspection of the Armed Forces allows practicing steps and evaluating the readiness to defend the country. Mikhail Alekseyev, an employee of the State Secretariat of the Security Council of the Republic of Belarus, made the statement after one stage of the inspection was completed on 12 February, BelTA has learned.

One of the episodes of the Belarusian army’s snap inspection authorized by the president was played out near the southern frontiers of the state border in Gomel Oblast on 12 February. Military personnel of the 103rd Vitebsk Airborne Brigade, the duty unit from the immediate-response forces went on a forced march and traveled for over 360km to reach the designated area. They had to deal with the suggested scenario in the field in conditions that resemble real ones.

Mikhail Alekseyev stressed that as a peculiarity of the snap inspection of the Armed Forces upon instructions of the Belarusian president the inspection is taking place in a significant number of military units simultaneously.

“It is taking place stage by stage. In approximately the same way that combat operations would be conducted in the event of a military threat. Within the framework of the inspection concept we aim to create conditions that are as close as possible to combat conditions taking into account the experience of combat operations in Ukraine,” he stressed.
Military personnel are practicing scenarios that are close to real ones. “All changes in the situation, which are communicated to the personnel in the form of introductory briefings, allow them to make the right decisions in real conditions of combat operations. At the moment we are also training personnel in the course of the inspection. It allows us to develop certain practical skills and improve theoretical knowledge among other things. After all, only in practice can you work out what you have learned during combat training. And on the one hand, the inspection allows us to practice while on the other hand, it allows us to evaluate our readiness to defend our country,” explained the employee of the State Secretariat of the Security Council.

The entire complex of events envisaged by the snap inspection of the Armed Forces will be analyzed in more detail in the future. “We will use results of the inspection to draw conclusions about what we need to focus on as part of the combat training of our Armed Forces in the future: we may need to make some changes in the armament and equipment of the Armed Forces or implement organizational measures. All of that will be done based on results of the inspection, including this episode,” he concluded.
BelTA reported earlier that the large-scale inspection of the Armed Forces authorized by the head of state began on 16 January. Aleksandr Lukashenko personally monitors its progress. A new system has been worked out to enable the president to place military units on combat alert without involving the Defense Ministry and the General Staff. The primary goal of this inspection is to see an objective picture. This is why the events are sudden.
