Security Council names security priorities in Belarus’ new development program

BREST, 12 December (BelTA) - State Secretary of the Security Council of Belarus Aleksandr Volfovich paid a visit to the units of the Brest garrison on 12 December, BelTA has learned.

“Carrying out the president’s instructions for a snap inspection of equipment, its storage condition, armaments, and the combat readiness of military units, I visited practically all units unexpectedly for the unit commanders. Today is specifically a ‘vehicle park day’ in the military units, with personnel working with hardware,” the state secretary of the Security Council explained. At his discretion, certain groups of equipment samples were brought to combat status. “Overall, I want to say that the hardware is in good, satisfactory condition and ready for its combat purpose,” Aleksandr Volfovich said.

In his words, a meeting of the Security Council was held several days ago where new documents on medium-term defense planning for the country were approved. According to these documents, special attention is paid to units in border regions and areas, particularly units of the Brest and Grodno garrisons, and their combat readiness. “Our security largely depends on their ability to fulfill their tasks, and on the condition of their armaments and military hardware. That is why these inspections are and will remain a constant practice,” the state secretary of the Security Council said.

During his visit to the Brest garrison, he spoke with personnel from the structures of the security bloc, informing them about the situation along Belarus’ borders and about the decisions being made by the country’s leadership to ensure security. Aleksandr Volfovich noted that the meeting was taking place ahead of the Belarusian People’s Congress, among whose delegates there are also military personnel. A key item on the agenda is the approval of the country’s social and economic development program for 2026-2030. One of its priorities is strengthening the state’s defense capability and developing the economic defense sector.

“This is a new priority embedded in the social and economic development program. There are two evaluation criteria there. The share of modern domestic models of armaments and military equipment, which must be included in the state defense order, should be no less than 50%. The second priority is increasing investments in industry, in the development of models of armaments and military equipment. The figure set in the program is 130%. It is indeed a high target. If these indicators are met (once we set them, we must fulfill them), then our defense capability will be at the proper level. This is very important. Because a protected state can live peacefully, develop, and successfully fulfill its economic tasks,” Aleksandr Volfovich said.
