Russia's St Petersburg to host Children of the Commonwealth forum on 20-29 June

MINSK, 2 June (BelTA) – The CIS international cultural and educational forum Children of the Commonwealth will take place in St Petersburg, Russia on 20-29 June, BelTA learned from the CIS Inter-Parliamentary Assembly.

Delegations from Belarus, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Moldova, Russia and Tajikistan plan to take part in the forum. They will be invited to participate in cultural, educational and sport events. The main events will be held at the children's recreation center Burevestnik. The forum participants will also visit significant historical sites and educational institutions in St. Petersburg and Leningrad Oblast and, of course, will enjoy all the splendor of the St. Petersburg High School Graduates Festival Scarlet Sails.

The main focus of this year's forum, which has been named the Year of Architecture and Urban Planning in the CIS, will be the project activities of the delegations on the themes Our UNESCO Object and UNESCO Model. Delegations will present sites of cultural heritage in their countries, which require the attention of UNESCO, and prepare a project for a UNESCO children's organization in the CIS.

The event is organized by the CIS Inter-Parliamentary Assembly with the support of the CIS Interstate Fund for Humanitarian Cooperation and the Administration of St. Petersburg.

The international cultural and educational forum Children of the Commonwealth was initiated by the Jogorku Kenesh of the Kyrgyz Republic, which was supported by the Inter-Parliamentary Assembly. The first forum was held in 2013 in Cholpon-Ata on the shore of Lake Issyk-Kul. Over the time, more than 600 school students from nine CIS member states took part in the forum: Belarus, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. The main goal of the event is to develop an international platform for the education of children and youth in the spirit of good neighborliness and cooperation, the formation of the CIS talent pool.
