Refugee from Iraq thanks Belarus for help

GRODNO, 6 December (BelTA) - spending the night in the woods could have been fatal for the refugees in the current wintry weather, refugee from Iraq told BelTA and thanked Belarus for her help.

Refugees have been staying on the Belarus-Poland border for 29 days already. People are staying in a temporary accommodation facility at the transport and logistics center near the Bruzgi border crossing.

“It is good that we are here. It is cold outside and it is snowing. In the camp in the woods we would have probably died by now. We are grateful to Belarus for helping us and providing us with food and clothes,” the 19-year-old girl said. She is staying in the logistics center with her parents.

“We, like other people, hope for the best. We are bracing ourselves, waiting for the situation to resolve. We do not understand why Europe is not solving our problem. We are not going to return to Iraq. There is a war going on there, people are killed right in the street. We have no place to go back to - no home, no property. If we return, we will sleep in the street,” the refugee said. She shared her dream with journalists. She wants to get good education and find a job to help her parents. Her father cannot perform hard work after a spinal injury.
