Pole convicted in Belarus of espionage: ‘I want to be with my family and children’

MINSK, 6 May (BelTA) – The Polish citizens, who carried out assignments for Polish intelligence in Belarus, talked to the Belarus 1 TV channel about the aid from the Polish authorities, BelTA learned.

Tomasz Beroza, convicted of agent operational activity in favor of the Polish intelligence services, began the interview with the phrase: “I understand that men don't cry.” But he couldn’t hold back tears. “It's very hard for me, I want to go home. I ask very much for the opportunity to go home,” he said.

Tomasz Beroza added that he would like to ask Poles to take all measures to bring him to Poland and that his case gets publicity. “I would really want people to know that I am here. I want the Polish government to take measures so that I can return to my family and children,” the convict said.

The Belarus 1 TV channel also talked to those who were detained right at the border for attempting to smuggle drugs. Jan Polski, convicted under Article 328 of the Criminal Code of Belarus, spoke about whether he had received help from the Polish authorities: “Twice I was given a package with food, cosmetics, basic necessities, such as a towel and so on. The consul was present at the court hearing, cheered me up,” he said. He added that by “cheering up” he means: “He told me to hang in there”.

Patryk Lukasz, accused under Article 328 of the Criminal Code of Belarus, said that he had appealed to the Polish authorities more than once, but he didn't know whether they were able to do anything.

As BelTA reported, Polish citizen Tomasz Beroza, with a residence permit in Belarus, was performing tasks for the Polish intelligence in our country - spying in the interests of Polish security services, preparing caches and places of surveillance for Polish agents.
