Over 100 armored vehicles, over 400 personnel taking part in army exercise near Grodno

MINSK, 30 March (BelTA) – A tactical exercise involving the 6th Independent Guards Mechanized Brigade began in the exercise area Gozhsky near Grodno. Commander of the Western Operative Command, Major-General Igor Demidenko oversees the exercise, the Defense Ministry told BelTA.

Over 100 armored vehicles and over 400 military personnel are taking part in the exercise.

Igor Demidenko noted that the tactical exercise had been scheduled for H1 2021. A brigade will practice a defensive battle as part of the exercise. The experience of modern wars and localized conflicts was taken into account as the exercise was organized. Close attention was paid to interaction between different arms of the military service.

According to the source, mechanized infantry and tank units will carry out military operations with assistance of artillery while dealing with a complicated radar situation. The troops will acquire the experience of preparing for and carrying out an active defensive action, the experience of counterattacks, the repulsion of aerial assaults of the simulated enemy. Tank units will have to cross a major water obstacle – the Neman River – during the exercise. A pontoon and bridge battalion of the 55th Engineer Brigade of the Western Operative Command will provide assistance.
