Our Traditions: Keeping Land Tidy

MINSK, 3 July (BelTA) - Traditions and customs of a nation make up the foundations of statehood. Independent Belarus has preserved the heritage of the past and created new traditions to celebrate the achievements and the best qualities of the Belarusian nation.

During the years of independence, our sovereign country has confidently moved forward, developing traditions in various walks of life. Keeping land tidy is a tradition for Belarusians. Every year the whole country takes part in the voluntary clean-up day (subbotnik) at the end of April. Thousands of enthusiasts - from ordinary citizens to the head of state – go out to clean up and landscape their communities. Billions of rubles earned on this day are spent to build social facilities, to finance the needs of children's health camps, to maintain historical and cultural monuments.
