Opinion: CIS initiatives help unite integration efforts

MINSK, 29 September (BelTA) - The initiatives of the CIS countries help unite efforts to promote integration, Deputy Chairman of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences Sergei Kilin told the media on the sidelines of the international scientific conference “30 Years of the Commonwealth of Independent States: Results and Prospects” on 29 September, BelTA has learned.

“The scientific conference is a wonderful event. We were very happy to meet with our colleagues. The conference drew together a wide representation of participants. All the interested parties were provided with an opportunity to speak and the discussions were very interesting. The initiatives that the CIS is putting forward help us unite our efforts and achieve the desired goal,” said Sergei Kilin.

According to him, intergovernmental agreements have been adopted in the CIS to develop cooperation in fundamental science. “We have agreed on the areas of joint activities. It was quite difficult to choose the areas that satisfy all CIS countries. Among them, of course, are innovative ones: IT-, bio- and nanotechnology. We should not forget about the information component either. This issue was also discussed at the sectional meetings,” the deputy chairman said.

Sergei Kilin added that the national project “100 Ideas for Belarus” entered the CIS space. The 100 Ideas for the CIS contest is in demand among young people. “The contest is great. Will young people communicate the same way they do now in 10 years? This depends on this kind of contests, too. Therefore, we support it," he stressed.

The CIS Executive Committee was an active partner of the NASB in preparing this international conference. It will adopt an outcome resolution, Deputy Chairman of the CIS Executive Committee Beketzhan Zhumakhanov said. "Its results will be disseminated and sent to all CIS countries. This will provide an opportunity to analyze everything that was voiced during the conference," he said. “In 2020, the CIS Council of Heads of State adopted the concept for the CIS further development, and the conference is aimed at highlighting the areas of further cooperation. We understand that the pandemic is leaving its mark on us all. Yet, we are beginning to slowly recover. This conference is proof of that. Leaders, representatives of national academies of the CIS countries brought their own proposals for the conference.”

The international scientific conference "30 Years of the Commonwealth of Independent States: Results and prospects" has been organized by the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus and the CIS Executive Committee. The conference is expected to sum up the results of the 30th anniversary of the Commonwealth of Independent States and to draw up recommendations for improving the CIS. The event has been held with the support of the CIS Interstate Humanitarian Cooperation Fund.
