MINSK, 5 November (BelTA) – The number of stalled construction projects in Belarus has been cut by 93% in recent years, Chairman of the State Control Committee Vasily Gerasimov told journalists following his report to the head of state, BelTA has learned.
He noted that more than half of the remaining projects date back to the 1970s and “they stand like monuments,” making their reintegration into the economy quite a challenge. “Nevertheless, we have a plan for each project with specific contractors, deadlines, and funding. This cannot be accomplished overnight, despite the extensive work that has already been done,” Vasily Gerasimov said.
When asked about the potential for new stalled projects to emerge, the chairman of the State Control Committee was unequivocal, stating that this is unacceptable and will be met with increased scrutiny. “We will make every effort, as we have communicated to the head of state. We cannot be eliminating old stalled construction projects while simultaneously accumulating new ones; otherwise, this entire effort will have been in vain.”
