New head of Catholic church in Belarus appointed

MINSK, 4 January (BelTA) – Pope Francis accepted the resignation of Metropolitan of Minsk and Mogilev, Archbishop Tadeusz Kondrusiewicz as the archbishop turned 75, the age of retirement, BelTA learned from the press service of the Holy See.

Tadeusz Kondrusiewicz turned 75 on 3 January. The Pope accepted his resignation and appointed Vicar General of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Pinsk Kazimierz Wielikosielec as Apostolic Administrator of the Archdiocese of Minsk and Mogilev. He turned 75 in May 2020, but the Pope let him continue his work for the next two years.

The official statement of the Holy See says that Tadeusz Kondrusiewicz submitted his resignation in accordance with the canon.
