New air service may connect Minsk, Kazan

MINSK, 1 November (BelTA) – A direct flight may be launched soon to connect Minsk and Russia's Kazan, Director General of Minsk National Airport Dmitry Melikyan told the media on 1 November, BelTA has learned.

“No applications have been filed yet from the air companies but official negotiations are underway with UVT Aero (Tatarstan, Russia). In addition, Nordica air carrier is in the process of receiving the designated carrier status from the Estonia aviation authorities for Minsk-Tallinn regular flights,” Dmitry Melikyan said.

He also noted that the negotiations are in progress with Saratov Airlines and Nordavia. Direct flights between Minsk and Novosibirsk will be resumed in May 2018. “Today 20 foreign airlines operate at the Minsk airport on a regular basis,” he added.

Belavia Director General Anatoly Gusarov also commented on the launch of Minsk-Kazan air service. “If a Russian company decides not to fly, then we will. We are carefully studying this direction in view of the fact that Kazan is one of the FIFA World Cup host cities. We are considering Rostov in the same vein. In addition, we have almost decided to launch flights to Anapa in the summer,” he said.
