Minsk-Malé flights may start in August

MINSK, 26 March (BelTA) – Direct flights from Minsk to the Maldives may begin in August, the National Union of Tourist Organizations told BelTA.

“The Maldives may become the next long-haul destination for Belavia. Tour operators are discussing the possibility of direct flights connecting Minsk and Malé. The program could run from August to October-November,” the union said.

Belavia’s route network currently includes four long-haul destinations: China, Sri Lanka, Vietnam, and Thailand.

At present, Belarusians travel to the Maldives via connecting flights: through Moscow or Istanbul (until recently, through Dubai), often booking flights and accommodation independently.

According to the migration authorities of the Maldives, more than 4,000 Belarusian citizens vacationed on the islands in 2022, and around 5,900 in 2023. Data for 2024 and 2025 are not available, but it is noted that the number of tourists has increased significantly.
