Minister: Tourism sector in Belarus needs new impetus

MINSK, 13 February (BelTA) – A decision to grant the tourism sector in Belarus the status of a separate industry is absolutely correct. Tourism needs a new impetus, Belarusian Sports Minister Sergei Kovalchuk said at the outcome board meeting of the ministry in Minsk, BelTA has learned.

2025 was a robust year for the tourism sector as it set a new record in the export of tourism services at $385 million. “So we are not ashamed to hand over part of our work, which, in my opinion, we did well. But today, new breakthrough solutions in the field of tourism are needed; an impetus is required. We have a wonderful country, and I believe this decision will yield results,” Sergei Kovalchuk noted.

Another crucial decision by the leadership of Belarus in 2025, the minister noted, was the decree on support for sports organizations. A key aspect of the new decree is that it allows sports federations and clubs to receive subsidies for their operations. Previously, they had to request tax breaks or seek sponsors, and these funds did not always arrive on time. Now, stable funding is guaranteed for core activities: maintaining facilities, purchasing equipment and gear, and paying wages.
