Mezentsev: Belarus, Russia fully maintain food security despite sanctions

MINSK, 7 June (BelTA) – Belarus and Russia maintain food security in full despite the sanctions, State Secretary of the Belarus-Russia Union State Dmitry Mezentsev said at the Belagro 2022 international expo, BelTA has learned.

“Last year, our presidents signed 28 Union State programs, some of which are designed to promote cooperation in the agricultural industry and boost our competitiveness. New production chains are being created, import substitution is gaining steam. Our states are under unprecedented pressure on the part of Western partners, but we fully maintain our food security. These difficulties take us to a new stage in our relations,” the state secretary stressed.

Speaking about the Belagro expo, he noted that it showcases Belarus' potential in agriculture and mechanical engineering.

“For our people Belagro is a big event, many come here with their families. More than 30 regions of Russia are represented at the exhibition. They came here to intensify contacts with Belarusian partners, show their products, discuss new cooperation agreements. This is a testimony to friendly relations between our countries. It is very important to make the most of the development potential of our countries,” Dmitry Mezentsev added.

The international exhibition Belagro 2022 is running in the China-Belarus Industrial Park Great Stone from 7 to 11 June. The agricultural forum traditionally brings together not only Belarusian farmers and workers of the food and processing industry but also their foreign counterparts and partners. This year more than 400 companies from different countries, including Belarus, China, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan and others are taking part in the exhibition. The expo will feature a large number of participants from Russia - more than 30 regions and 16 individual stands.

Collective expositions will be offered by the Agriculture and Food Ministry, Industry Ministry, National Academy of Sciences, Belgospishcheprom and Belcoopsoyuz. The exposition will be supplemented by the exhibitions Belfarm (the latest achievements in cattle breeding) and Belproduct (food products).

Belagro will become a platform for business negotiations. The exhibition program will include B2B meetings, debates, conferences, demonstrations and contests.
