MINSK, 11 March (BelTA) – Deputy Internal Affairs Minister, Commander of the Internal Troops Nikolai Karpenkov met with reporters ahead of Internal Troops Day and explained how special units of the internal troops protect the country from drones, BelTA has learned.

Nikolai Karpenkov remarked that modern radioelectronic warfare and reconnaissance solutions are needed to successfully fight drones. “Particularly important installations are now covered by air defense systems. We’ve bought powerful radioelectronic warfare systems. We have serious equipment that maintains a security dome above us. Every team of our special forces has means for detection of and protection from various kinds of drones. We are moving in this direction. We are going to acquire new equipment in order to secure the skies above us. The president pays serious attention to this matter,” the commanding officer of the internal troops of the Belarusian Internal Affairs Ministry said.

He also indicated that drones sometimes drop in Belarus’ territory. “It is a consequence of what is going on in the area along our southern border. Our special mine clearance units have to neutralize the fallen drones. Professionalism, heroism, and luck of the bomb disposal specialists allow them to solve the problem. Not a single house has been destroyed. We try to defuse drones as safely as possible,” Nikolai Karpenkov stressed.

The deputy internal affairs minister added that units of the internal troops carry out missions near the border and protect the air space above themselves and above the urban areas in their operational areas from unmanned aerial vehicles. Soldiers of the internal troops interact with air defense units of the army in the course of carrying out this task.
