MINSK, 30 March (BelTA) - Rescuers of the ZUBR special purpose detachment of the Belarusian Emergencies Ministry shared details on how the search and rescue operations will be carried out in the earthquake zone in Myanmar, the Belarusian Emergencies Ministry told BelTA.
"Two units and the command staff are being deployed to the disaster-stricken country. The first unit will set up the camp, the second one will conduct reconnaissance or execute assigned tasks. Team rotations will occur as the work progresses. Emergency and rescue operations will be conducted non-stop, with even personnel changes directly happening at the work sites," Chief Duty Officer of the ZUBR detachment Sergei Novichuk said.
Yuri Geleklidi, the team doctor, stated that a medical station will be established in the camp to provide first aid to those trapped under rubble. "We have the necessary equipment and medications for them. We can perform immobilization, anti-shock measures and pain relief," he added.

In the disaster zone, rescuers will use video endoscopes and radar detectors for remote operations, gasoline and electric tools for work in hard-to-reach areas. Climbing equipment will be used for tasks at heights. Search and rescue efforts in Myanmar’s earthquake zone will involve canine units from the rescue agency.
"Service dogs will search for signs of living people under the rubble. Once a dog signals a find, rescuers begin extracting the person," Head of the Canine Service of the Emergencies Ministry Arslan Sekhetov explained.

He expressed confidence that both the rescuers and their service dogs are fully prepared for the mission. "We understand that it will be challenging but are ready to handle any task. We also need to adapt to the climate as Myanmar has temperatures of 35°C. The dogs will need it too, but they are experienced enough, and I believe there won’t be any issues," Arslan Sekhetov stressed.

As it was previously reported, following the instructions of the head of state, Belarus will provide assistance to Myanmar, which has been affected by the earthquake. The ZUBR special purpose detachment of the Belarusian Emergencies Ministry has already departed from the Machulishchy airfield using Belarus’ Defense Ministry aviation transport to the disaster zone.
