Gigin on unique books gifted to Belarusian president

MINSK, 21 November (BelTA) - In the latest episode of BelTA’s project "The Nation Speaks" Chairman of the Board of the Belarusian Society Znanie, Director General of the National Library of Belarus Vadim Gigin spoke about the idea of creating the exhibition "Books Given as Gifts to the President" which is exhibited as part of the national social and cultural campaign Marathon of Unity".

According to Vadim Gigin, the idea of the exhibition sprang up during a meeting with the head of state. "At one of the meetings, the head of state referred to a book that he was reading at that time. It was The Lectures on Russian History by Vasily Klyuchevsky. Natalya Eismont actively supported the idea to showcase the books that were presented to the president by important and iconic people, often with messages. Because the book, the message give a glimpse into the spiritual world of a person. In fact, we see the era through this," he stressed.

Vadim Gigin is confident that the 30th anniversary of the presidency is not only achievements in economy and politics. "This is a very serious spiritual milestone for our country, for the president himself as the leader of the nation. We show , for example, a message made by Yevgeny Primakov to Nikolai Lukashenko about his father. There is also the Quran presented by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and a photo taken at the moment of presenting the gift. There are also books gifted by Russian President Vladimir Putin, public figures, journalists and others. We demonstrate the whole history of sovereign Belarus through the book, and visitors show keen interest,” Vadim Gigin said.

“This exhibition is very popular at the Marathon of Unity. Believe me, young and old coming to take a look at these masterpieces (and these are true masterpieces) makes me really happy,” Vadim Gigin said, announcing new projects from the National Library for the nationwide social and cultural campaign.

The exhibition will be on show in Mogilev on 22-23 November. Residents of Vitebsk will have an opportunity to see the exhibits on 29-30 November when the city is expected to host the Marathon of Unity.

According to the organizers, the Marathon of Unity will launch new projects in Mogilev. These are My life. My Road. My President and Knowledge without Borders.
