MINSK, 8 December (BelTA) – The first meeting of the Belarusian diaspora has been held in Istanbul ahead of the New Year’s Eve, the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs told BelTA.
The Consulate General of Belarus in Istanbul organized a meeting of Belarus citizens ahead of New Year’s Eve celebrations. The event proceeded in a warm and friendly atmosphere. It brought together the Belarusian community, children and adults, who live in Istanbul. The guests watched a festive program featuring the Belarusian Theater for Young Spectators. The artists gifted a New Year’s Eve mood, joy, and genuine emotions to the public.
Participants of the meeting also sampled sweet Belarusian cuisine dishes.
Consul General of Belarus in Istanbul Yevgenia Bortkevich made a speech during the meeting. She noted that New Year’s Eve is a family holiday while meetings of Belarusians abroad allow one to feel the atmosphere of the native home and the unity of the Belarusian nation.
“When a Belarusian family gets together, it is always a celebration wherever we are. Such meetings help us keep ties to the Motherland, to our culture and traditions,” Yevgenia Bortkevich said.
The festive event was the first such meeting of the Belarusian diaspora in Istanbul. The Consulate General hopes that such meetings will become a good tradition and will bring together Belarusians every year. The diplomatic mission intends to continue organizing the cultural initiatives and public ones that are aimed at reinforcing the unity of the Belarusian community, fostering the dialogue, and promoting Belarus’ positive image abroad.
