Economist: Europe has entirely lost its edge in technology and science

MINSK, 23 October (BelTA) - European countries have completely lost their technological and scientific competitiveness, economist and analyst Serghei Banari said in a new episode of the V Teme [On Point] project on BelTA's YouTube channel.
“In September, 6,800 bankruptcies were registered in France. This is the highest level since September 2009. Yes, they have a high base and therefore have room to fall, but everything has its limit. In Germany, the cost of one megawatt-hour has reached 160 euros,” the economist cited several figures. “Let's take a close look at the number of industrial enterprises closing down in France and Germany. Let's take a close look at the complete loss of technological and scientific competitiveness by the leading European countries.”

Serghei Banari mentioned a complex domestic political situation in Germany. In his opinion, the country's authorities are trying to distract their citizens from pressing problems with statements about external security threats.

“The German government is trying to impose a foreign policy agenda for one simple reason - they have nothing to offer on the domestic front, they have no solutions. When does a country's leader start talking about what's happening abroad? When he is at a complete impasse with his own people, trying to distract, to defocus their attention from internal problems and refocus it on external ones. The external problems boil down to the fact that this evil Putin simply does not want to confirm that he is preparing for war with Europe,” the analyst said.
