CIS urged to step up cooperation to combat crime, terrorism

MINSK, 28 September (BelTA) - The International Training Center on Migration and Combating Trafficking in Human Beings at the Academy of the Ministry of Internal Affairs hosted a panel discussion "CIS cooperation in strengthening security, combating crime and terrorism" as part of the international scientific conference "30 Years of the Commonwealth of Independent States: Results and prospects", BelTA learned from the academy.

"Cooperation between the CIS member states in ensuring security and combating crime and terrorism is now an important and pressing topic. I am sure the conference will contribute to improving cooperation in this area, to new joint research,” the head of the academy Aleksandr Vasiliev said as he addressed the conference. “I am confident that we will be able to promote the atmosphere of mutual understanding and strengthen scientific ties. For my part, I stand ready to facilitate closer comprehensive cooperation."

The speakers included representatives of law enforcement and other government bodies, scientific and educational institutions of the CIS member states and representatives of the CIS Executive Committee and the CIS cooperation bodies in charge of security, law and order.

The conference has drawn more than 300 representatives of state bodies, CIS agencies, leading scientists and specialists, heads of major scientific and educational organizations of a number of states, including delegations from Belarus, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Russia, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, and representatives of the diplomatic corps.

The conference is expected to sum up the results of the 30th anniversary of the Commonwealth of Independent States and to draw up recommendations for improving the CIS.
