MOSCOW, 23 August (BelTA) – Security agencies of the CIS member states have carried out a training session on detecting sleeper cells of international terrorist organizations, the CIS Anti-Terrorism Center press service told BelTA.
A practical training session took place in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan on 23 August. It was arranged by the CIS Anti-Terrorism Center with assistance of the State National Security Committee of Kyrgyzstan. The training session was arranged in anticipation of the CIS joint counterterrorism exercise Issyk-Kul Antiterror 2018.
The main purpose of the training session was to prepare operatives to work together during the first stage of the exercise. The content and sequence of training tasks of the exercise were discussed. Procedures for interstate and interagency interaction in the course of detecting and suppressing the operation of sleeper cells of international terrorist organizations were practiced. Participants of the training session analyzed what information systems with collective access the CIS security services and law enforcement agencies possess since they will be used heavily in the course of the exercise.
The first stage of the CIS joint counterterrorism exercise Issyk-Kul Antiterror 2018 will take place in seven CIS countries – Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan – in September 2018 while the final stage will take place in Kyrgyzstan.
Representatives of security agencies and special services of Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan took part in the training session as well as representatives of CIS bodies such as the council of border guard commanders, the council of heads of financial intelligence bodies, the bureau for coordinating the fight against organized crime and other dangerous kinds of crime.
